District Web Site Hosting

UPDATE 10/16/2015: Your personal web space hosting at the district will move to a new url and server on November 2nd. Read about the changes here and review the updated connection information.

Many of you may not realize that you automatically receive 300 MBs of web space on our web server if you have a district employee email address @smccd.edu

Your Website Address
Username is your email username (for example: the URL for Joe Mac mac@smccd.edu is
http://www.smccd.edu/accounts/mac )

To access your web folder we use a protocol called WebDAV instead of FTP. You can upload on a MAC or a PC using WebDAV of you can upload directly from inside Dreamweaver.
Note: The reason we use WebDAV is because FTP is not secure and will send your password as clear text.

What is WebDav?
Basically, it’s a file transfer method allowing you to connect your computer to the district server and transfer files back and forth. What’s cool about WebDAV is that in many cases you can open your folders/files in the WebDAV/Browser window and work on them right there. Each time you “Save,” your file is saved on the district server and is ready to be viewed by web users.
